One of the most common uses of the Apple Watch is replying to text messages right on the device itself. Along with creating texts comes the option to delete messages, which is important for preserving storage space. Here's how to delete messages on an Apple Watch.
These instructions apply to all versions of the Apple Watch and watchOS.
Why Delete Messages From the Apple Watch?
The Apple Watch comes with between up to 32 GB of storage space, depending on the model. You aren't likely to fill all of that up with texts alone, but Messages are one place you can clear some room if the need arises. Considering how tedious the process is, you should consider deleting text messages as one among several ways to free up some data on your device.
How to Delete Messages on Apple Watch
It would make more sense and take less time to delete all messages from the Apple Watch at once. Unfortunately, a clean sweep of Messages isn't an option. You can, however, delete conversations one at a time. Here's how.
Press the Digital Crown on the Apple Watch to access the app screen.
Select Messages and scroll down to the conversation you want to delete.
Swipe left on the conversation to reveal two options.
Tap the red Trashcan icon on the right to delete the thread.
Repeat these steps for all of the conversations you want to delete from your Apple Watch.
Drawbacks of Deleting Messages from Apple Watch
While many apps sync between the Apple Watch and iPhone, Messages is not one of them. Conversations you delete from the Watch will still be on your iPhone, and threads you clear on your phone may remain on your Watch.
What this means is that outside of some organizational improvements and added storage space, deleting messages from the Apple Watch has few practical benefits. You're probably better off cleaning up your Music app, which can be more of a space hog than Messages.
