The best 10-inch tablets display a clear, high-resolution image while still thriving in other areas. Few people want a tablet that runs slowly and can't keep up with basic tasks, even if it has a large display screen, so a good tablet will also have excellent sound quality, ample processing power, good network connectivity, and durable build quality.

You can usually rely on a select few brands (like Samsung and Apple) to deliver high-quality mobile devices, but not all of the products from these brands are created equally. We evaluated dozens of 10-inch tablets, and our pick for the best is the Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 Lite (view at Samsung). The Galaxy Tab S6 Lite is the total package, with respectable specifications, an included S-Pen stylus and an affordable price point. If the Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 Lite isn't right for you, we've also included our picks for the best 10-inch tablets in other categories like the best 10-inch tablet for kids, the best budget 10-inch tablet, and the best 10-inch tablet for students.

Apple has different tiers in its iPad lineup, but even with the higher-end"Pro"and"Air"models designed for more serious users, the entry-level iPad remains an attractive option, especially considering the price. The 2019 iPad gained a small but noticeable boost to a 10.2-inch screen and support for Apple's Smart Connector, but it retained the same A10 processor.

The addition of the Smart Keyboard connector means it's compatible with Apple's Smart Keyboard, making it even more capable of replacing a laptop for writers, journalists, and students. Of course, there's still a wealth of Bluetooth keyboard options to choose from if you want to go with a third-party option.

The larger display means the onscreen keyboard is more naturally sized and more comfortable to type on. The Apple Pencil, which was once the exclusive domain of the iPad Pro, works with the iPad. However, this iPad only works with the first-generation Apple Pencil. You can sketch and draw, and even markup and sign documents as well. With a battery life of up to 10 hours and the option for cellular use, the iPad is great for both working and playing on the go.

Amazon's Fire HD 10 Tablet has come a long way over the years, and it's now considered as one of the best budget Android tablets on the market. The tablet runs on FireOS, an Android-based operating system that's centered around Amazon services. The interface makes it easy to watch movies, read books, listen to music, and play games. With Alexa, you can use voice commands to navigate the tablet, even when the screen is asleep.

The Fire HD 10 tablet has a 2Ghz octa-core processor and 2 GB of RAM. It has front and rear cameras, but they're basic 2 MP cameras that record video in 720p resolution. This isn't the type of tablet you'd want to regularly use for work or school, but you could use it to check emails, video chat, or edit a Google Doc. The Fire HD 10 is an affordable, family-friendly tablet for entertainment. With a 10.1-inch 1080p screen, USB-C fast charging, and good sound quality, this is a solid choice for anyone looking for an affordable device.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab S5e is slimmer than many previous iterations--both in its size and when it comes to its price. Weighing less than a pound and measuring only 5.5mm, the tablet melds high-end features with a mid-tier price point. Powered with an octa-core Snapdragon 670 processor, it has up to 15 hours of battery life for all-day streaming, working, and web browsing. Starting at 64GB, the device's internal storage can be expanded to 512GB with a microSD card.

While the tablet may fall short when it comes to multi-tasking, it excels when handling only a few tasks at a time. Movies and shows are elevated on the 10.5-inch Super AMOLED screen, with 2560x1600 WQXGA resolution at 287 PPI. The AKG-tuned quad surround sound speakers sound incredible too.

Samsung's Bixby 2.0, a virtual assistant and information tool, can help you control smart home devices and music, answer your questions, and more with just a voice command.

The iPad Air 3's razor-thin body (it measures just 6.1mm) hosts a commanding A12 Bionic chip with Neural Engine, which learns your habits and preferences in realtime to customize your iPad experience. You can simultaneously work, stream, use apps, take notes with Apple Pencil, play games, and text, and the iPad Air 3 will keep up. The tablet is all about multitasking, whether that's using multiple tabs at once or making group FaceTime calls.

The base model boasts 64GB of storage and support for Apple Pencil, but it supports the first generation pencil (not the second generation pencil like the iPad Pro). You can also connect the iPad Air to a Smart Keyboard, making it a more affordable option for those looking for a tablet that doubles (or triples) as a sketchbook or computer.

The 10.5-inch Retina display, 8MP back camera, and 7MP FaceTime camera don't just let you capture the world around you, but let you see the world differently through Augmented Reality, which can do everything from measure objects in your house to preview what a product will look like in your space.

Sometimes you just need to get work done, and you need a tablet that can keep up with your pace. If productivity is your game, then the Surface Go is the ultimate 10-inch tablet that might just be the best choice for you. The Surface Go can run a full-fledged desktop operating system, which is excellent for opening and editing Office documents and running PC-based software, just as you would on your laptop. The Intel Pentium processor is able to handle basic work tasks, and the battery will provide you up to 9 hours of video playback time.

The Surface Go starts with a base model that includes 64GB of storage and 4GB of RAM, while the top-end model features 128GB of storage and 8GB of memory. The screen resolution is only 1800x1200 (217 ppi), but the Surface Go has a 5MP front-facing camera and an 8MP rear-facing autofocus camera, and both cameras are capable of 1080p video.

The Surface Go is available in both standard Wi-Fi and LTE cellular variations for on-the-go connectivity. If you're going to be doing a lot of typing, make sure to pick up the coordinating Type Cover. You can also opt for other accessories, like the Surface Pen and Surface Dial.

Not ideal for older kids

The standard Fire HD 10 tablet makes a great option for those invested in Amazon's ecosystem; however, the Kids Edition offers a few perks that make it ideal for younger users. You'll likely notice the Kids Edition of the Fire HD 10 costs a bit more than the standard version. What is so unique about it?

For starters, the Kids Edition includes a bright and colorful bumper case to help prevent tech-obsessed youngsters from breaking the tablet. The best part of the deal, however, is if it does break, Amazon will replace the tablet thanks to a two-year worry-free guarantee.

This version of the Amazon Fire HD 10 also includes kid-friendly software loaded and ready to go out of the box. A year of Amazon FreeTime Unlimited is included with your purchase, allowing your children to access more than 20,000 books, movies, TV shows, and educational applications. The parental controls are some of the best on the market. You set your child's age, and your kid can view age-appropriate content. If you want to allow additional non-FreeTime content, you have to approve each application individually. You can monitor your child's usage using an intuitive parental dashboard.

What We Don't Like

Less processing power

This isn't the best option for someone looking for a tablet for heavy productivity, but it's a great choice as a general-purpose tablet or as an occasional work device. If you want a larger screen for communications, drawing, or entertainment, the Galaxy Tab S6 Lite is one of the best Android tablets available.

If you're a fan of styluses, Samsung's S-Pen comes right in the package, so you can take advantage of those drawing and digital editing applications that pair so nicely with the S-Pen. The Tab S6 Lite has a 10.4-inch WUXGA+ display, a front camera, and a rear camera. This is an excellent tablet for those work Zoom meetings, or for catching up with friends and family. The sound quality is better than you'd expect on a tablet in this price range. The S6 lite has two AKG tuned Dolby Atmos-enabled speakers.

The Tab S6 Lite has a lot to offer, but it isn't as powerful as the regular Tab S6. It comes with an Exynos 9610 processor, less RAM, and less storage than the regular S6, but it's still an excellent value considering everything it offers.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 Lite is an excellent choice for a reasonable price, offering an S-Pen stylus, Dolby Atmos speakers, and a beautiful display. For a more family-friendly entertainment tablet, the Fire HD 10 is worth a look. Young kids may also like the kid's version of Amazon's Fire HD 10 tablet. If you need a tablet for work, check out Microsoft's Surface Go.

What to Look for in a 10-inch Tablet

Display - Check out the tablet's specs, and see if the GPU and max resolution can support your needs. If you're just going to be using a tablet for communications and web surfing, you can get away with a basic device. On the other hand, if you plan on using your tablet for gaming or more graphics-intensive purposes, you'll want a tablet that has the graphics processing power to handle such tasks.

Sound quality- If you plan on watching movies, listening to music, making calls, or performing any other tasks on your tablet that requires it to sound good, you'll want a tablet that has a decent microphone, speakers, audio tuning, and maybe even a 3.5mm port for connecting headphones. Check out the audio specifications and make sure you're getting a model that fits your needs.

Processing power- A tablet's processing power is particularly important if you plan on using your device for work or school. Look closely at the device's processor, RAM, and storage capacity to make sure it can keep up with your daily demands. Keep in mind, you're usually going to pay more for devices with faster processing speeds.
